May 15, 2011 - Co-Chairs of the 2011 Governor’s Fishing Opener Committee Shannon Benolken and Council Person Gary McInerney, MN State Senator Tom Saxhaug, Lt. Governor Yvonne Prettner Solon, Grand Rapids Mayor Dale Adams, Get Fit Itasca Active Living Chair Betsy Johnson, and Get Fit Itasca Community Health Coordinator Meghan Bown. During the visit Lt. Gov. Solon stopped by one of the 5 new Get Fit Itasca Map Kiosks which show the more than 50 miles of trails that are available with the city of Grand Rapids. Funding for the kiosks came in part from Iron Range Resources that was part of a bill that Senator Saxhaug helped push through last year, and from the Statewide Health Improvement Project (SHIP), which is part of Gov. Dayton’s budget this current year. “It’s going to help us build a healthier community and cut down on healthcare costs,” said Prettner Solon about the initiative.
